Night Diving and Limited Visibility
The Night Diving and Limited Visibility Specialty course at Signature Scuba Gili Trawangan offers an exciting chance for scuba divers to discover the underwater world in a whole new light — after dark.
Under the guidance of our SSI & PADI certified instructors, you’ll learn proper dive light techniques, nocturnal navigation, communication in darkness, and how to manage limited visibility conditions.
The Night Diving and Limited Visibility course teaches scuba divers how to safely explore the underwater world in low-light or limited-visibility conditions. This specialty focuses on essential skills like navigation, communication, and the use of dive lights to enhance confidence and safety.
Discover a completely different underwater world as nocturnal creatures emerge from their daytime hiding spots. Watch hunting octopus, sleeping parrotfish, bioluminescent plankton, and countless other creatures that only appear after sunset.
📖 Course Overview
The SSI Night Diving and Limited Visibility Specialty course is designed to prepare you for the unique challenges and rewards of diving after dark or in conditions with reduced visibility. Over 1.5 days, you'll complete two dedicated night dives under the direct supervision of a certified SSI Instructor.
The course begins with classroom sessions covering night dive planning, equipment requirements (including primary and backup lights), communication techniques for low visibility, navigation methods using natural and artificial references, and special considerations for night diving such as nocturnal marine life behavior and potential hazards.
During the practical night dives, you'll learn proper light handling techniques — including how to signal with lights, avoid blinding other divers, and conserve battery life. You'll practice navigating to and from the entry point using compass bearings, depth contours, and light references. You'll also learn how to maintain buoyancy and situational awareness when visibility is limited.
Upon successful completion, you'll earn the SSI Night Diving and Limited Visibility Specialty certification, opening up an entirely new dimension of diving. Night dives often reveal marine life that is rarely seen during the day — octopus hunting, sleeping fish, crabs emerging from coral, and sometimes bioluminescent displays.
