📖 Course Overview
The SSI Scuba Diver Upgrade course is designed specifically for certified Scuba Divers who want to take the next step and become full Open Water Divers. In just one day, you'll complete the remaining training required to earn your Open Water Diver certification — the most recognized entry-level diving credential worldwide.
The course builds on the knowledge and skills you already gained during your Scuba Diver course. You'll complete additional theory sessions covering deeper dive planning, navigation basics, and more advanced dive procedures. The academic portion ensures you understand the additional considerations for diving to 18 meters (60 feet).
During the practical session, you'll complete two open water dives to a maximum depth of 18 meters. These dives focus on refining your buoyancy, improving your air consumption, and building confidence at deeper depths. Your instructor will provide personalized feedback and help you master skills like deeper descents and ascents, safety stop execution, and situational awareness at greater depths.
Upon successful completion, you'll earn the SSI Open Water Diver certification — recognized worldwide. This full certification allows you to dive independently (with a buddy) to 18 meters, rent equipment anywhere, and continue your diving education with Advanced Adventurer and specialty courses.
