📖 Course Overview
The Rescue React EFR package is the ultimate emergency preparedness program for divers. This comprehensive course combines the full SSI Rescue Diver certification with the React Right (EFR) First Aid & CPR certification — giving you all the skills needed to prevent, recognize, and respond to medical emergencies both underwater and on land.
The React Right component is a half-day program covering primary care (CPR), secondary care (first aid), and emergency oxygen administration. You'll learn adult, child, and infant CPR, choking management, bleeding control, shock management, splinting, and how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). This certification meets the First Aid/CPR requirement for Rescue Diver and all professional-level diving courses.
The Rescue Diver component builds on these first aid skills with in-water rescue techniques. You'll learn self-rescue, stress recognition, panicked diver response, unresponsive diver recovery, underwater search patterns, emergency ascent assistance, and victim handling. Pool sessions allow you to practice each skill in a controlled environment before applying them in open water scenarios.
Open water scenarios simulate real-life emergencies — from equipment problems to unresponsive divers at depth. You'll practice coordinating with other divers, managing bystanders, and executing complete rescue responses from recognition through to evacuation. Scenarios are challenging but controlled, with instructor supervision ensuring safety throughout.
Upon successful completion, you'll earn two certifications: SSI Rescue Diver and SSI React Right (EFR). The Rescue Diver certification is a prerequisite for all professional-level courses (Divemaster and Instructor) and a core requirement for SSI Master Diver. The React Right certification is valid for 24 months and can be renewed to maintain your emergency response qualifications.
