The SSI Open Water Diver course at Signature Scuba Gili Trawangan is the entry-level certification for those interested in learning how to scuba dive around the Gili Islands. 📖 Course Overview
The SSI Open Water Diver course is the world's most popular and recognized entry-level scuba certification. Over 3 days, you'll complete a comprehensive program combining engaging theory sessions, confined water training, and four open water dives to earn your certification.
The academic portion covers essential diving knowledge including equipment function, dive physics and physiology, underwater communication, dive planning, safety procedures, and environmental awareness. The course uses modern multimedia materials including videos, digital manuals, and interactive quizzes to make learning engaging and effective.
During pool sessions, you'll practice essential skills in a safe, controlled environment. Skills include mask clearing, regulator recovery and sharing, buoyancy control, fin techniques, emergency procedures, and proper ascent/descent techniques. Your instructor provides hands-on guidance and personalized feedback to ensure you master each skill.
Open water dives take place at Gili Trawangan's stunning dive sites — known for crystal clear visibility, vibrant coral reefs, and abundant marine life including sea turtles, reef sharks, and countless tropical fish species. You'll complete four supervised dives to a maximum depth of 18 meters (60 feet), applying your skills in real ocean conditions.
Upon successful completion, you'll earn the SSI Open Water Diver certification — recognized at dive centers worldwide. This certification allows you to rent equipment, book dive trips, and dive independently (with a buddy) anywhere in the world. It's also the foundation for all further diving education including Advanced Adventurer, Specialty courses, Rescue Diver, and professional certifications.
